I'm Sean Wilson. I teach musicians to play by ear.

Since 2015, I've put over 600 free lessons on YouTube. The players who grow the fastest aren't the ones who learn the most chords. They're the ones who know what their left hand is doing.

You are so correct. When we learn we all only concentrate on the right hand… Feel like you were speaking to me personally there… Lol

This is pretty much a cliff notes video to everything you need to know in Gospel music! Put this regimen in every key and you are fluent! This shouldn’t even be available online!! This is some graduate school gospel man! Good stuff!!!

You learn the chord. Your right hand gets it right.

Then your left hand plays octaves. Or just the bass note. Or whatever feels safe.

In a modern song, that sounds old school.

Bass players, organists, and intermediate musicians can tell you don't know what to do with your left hand.

And deep down, you know you're guessing.

How to know if you need this

  • When an advanced chord comes up, you can't figure out what your left hand should play.
  • Octaves feel easier, so you fall back on them when a song gets hard.
  • You're not sure when to play the bass note and when to leave it out.
  • You don't know where on the keyboard your left hand belongs.
  • Your right hand is right, but the whole thing still sounds off.

You never learned what to play in your left hand because you were taught to split the chord: part in your left hand, part in your right.

I teach the opposite. The whole sound of the chord belongs in your left hand alone.

The bass plays a note. Your left hand needs an answer.

My method has two parts.

The Zone tells you where to play.

Do you know what part of the keyboard your left hand needs to be in? If not, the Zone will tell you. Step outside the Zone and it won't sound right, even with the right notes.

The 6 Rules tell you what to play.

Each rule is a job your left hand does in a song. Learn all six, and you'll know which one the moment needs.
