  14. Kalu says:

So how can we know the right finger position for those drop 2’s

    1. sean says:

Hey, there’s a debate on this right now. Some folks prefer 1 note in the Left Hand and 3 in the right hand. I try to do 2 in the Left and 2 in the right, but its mostly personal preference

  15. Hey – I ‘m looking at this video now, and doing the exercise, and I’m getting better at the voice leading already –

Here’s an old tune of mine that I could never play completely myself – DUEO

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmxjkPHciAw&list=RDdmxjkPHciAw&start_radio=1

and I never”approved” 🙂 100% on how the pianists played it ( I”m trumpet / vocals ) – it felt like they didn’t get to the “heart” of the chord progression I was hearing ( I had all sorts problems notating the chords correctly too –
but I couldn’t explain what I heard in my head, and that was deeply embarrassing, as I”m supposed to have this jazz education etc… later, at NYU a well meaning pianist tried some drop 2s all over, and I was not happy with that either , beig a Scandinavian, I want some oppenness, and not ALWAYS the clusters… in the sound – (makes sense/)

But I think I”ve clocked it now – It IS a bunch of drop 2s creating a very Take 6 -ish feel ..
    moving chromatically downward…
    I’m rerecording –

Thanks for helping me rediscovering my own tune 🙂

    1. Chevonne says:

I’m glad you’re enjoying the lesson and rediscovering your own sound, that’s what this site is all about!
